Wing Study
Balsa Wood, Copper Tubing, Piano Wire, May 2007

Wing Study was a collaborative project with James N. Sears. We were inspired by Santiago Calatrava's design of the WTC Transportation Hub in Lower Manhattan. We modelled out several designs of wings in motion during flight, and created separate rib structures by cutting balsa wood. The base of the wing has pressed copper tubing to add weight, which are balanced on their fulcrum for a pendulum effect. Any movement would make this "wing" look dynamic.
