Red Algae Pattern
Micro suede, November 2005

This was a research project in materials and patterns. To make a random and seamless pattern of algae, I had to sew the micro suede fabric to eight panels of foam core (18 x 32 inches) because the laser cutter bed was that dimension. Then after creating a random pattern, I had to tile the continuous strands of algae patterns to connect the panels.  This experimentation in randomness helped the pattern look more organic. I was inspired by Ted Muehling's jewelry design.
